Is there a point to bathing?

This morning Cooper and I had our first shower together since being out of the womb.  Was a bit tricky working out the logistics on my own, but we got there.  Cooper thought it was pretty good...being able to have a feed while being under the nice warm water!

Right after getting out, however, he peed on himself, followed by a little chuck.  I had to wonder if the wash had actually been worth it, lol.

On the sleeping matter, we have basically succumbed to co-sleeping.  Jason took first shift last night, with Cooper sleeping on his chest from about 11 to 2:15.  Great sleep for me!  Then after feeding and changing, he slept on me for another about 3 hours.  Not the most comfy way to sleep, but at least we get sleep!!  :-D

  1. lol I love the feeding in the shower idea! never tried that. Lizzie hasn't had a shower yet, Brett usually does the showering with susie so must ask if he wants to shower lizzie sometime soon!

If you want to read a book on sleeping I really like 'Sleeping like a baby' by pinky mckay - here's her website anyway:http://www.pinky-mychild.com/ . it's really encouraging to go with your instincts! neither of our girls been interested in co sleeping, but if that's wat you need at this time then go for it. his still in his 'fourth trimester' so a bit of 'womb service' might just be what he needs

  2. I second Pinky's book. As for bathing - I just top and tail until they can sit-up. Don't tell anyone though.

  3. Bathing is always temporary but hopefully he stays clean a little longer than a minute or two.

And sleep is good. However you get it. It's important for Cooper to have at least semi-sane parents.

  4. Aarrrgh.. the futility of bathing! And they're so small & slippery! How did you go getting out of the shower - I reckon that's the trickiest bit.

I still wonder what the point is. After our attempt at a bath yesterday morning I had to chuck 2 hysterical kids in the shower, rewash them, strain the poo from the bathwater and disinfect all the bathtoys. :[

  5. lol to the poo in the bath, Ruth!! Not fun for you, I know, but sorry to admit it is a little funny for me!

Cooper was a good boy and peed before getting out of the bath today, so at least he didn't drench his towels etc. I did wonder what would happen if he ever poos in the bath tho - runny pumpkin soup poo... I'd have fun trying to deal with that!

I actually got out of the shower with him still attached and managed to dry him a little while he was still feeding which kept him happy :)

And, yes, co-sleeping definately seems to work for us! I get a touch nervous 'following my instincts', especially when it goes against SIDS recommendations. For example, Cooper really doesn't seem keen on sleeping on his back, which I wonder if that's part of the reason he doesn't like his cot. My aunt said she wedged her boys between rolled towels or those baby 'no roll' things, so maybe I'll try that.

  6. Heather, have you been to kirokids yet? may be a reason he doesn't like being on his back (after our experience with Susie and hating nappy changes till we got her back fixed) till then those wedge things are supposed to be good and should help!

  8. I have that book if you want to borrow it Heather? Just let me know - I'm happy to drop it around.

If it makes you feel a little more comfy, have a look here: http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/sleep-problems/sleep-safety/safe-co-sleeping-habits for some tips on co-sleeping safely.
